The Investigative Protection Officer is an entry-level position with promotion potential to the GS-11 level. After an individual has gained the necessary experience at the GS-11 level, there may be competitive opportunities for promotion to the Lead Investigative Protection Officer position (GS-12) and then competitive promotion to the Supervisory Investigative Protection Officer position (GS-13) based on availability of position.

The Protective Armored Specialist is an entry-level position with promotion potential to the GS-12 level. After an individual has gained the necessary experience at the GS-12 level, there may be opportunities for competitive promotion to the Lead Protective Armored Specialist position (GS-13) based on availability of position.

The Technical Security Investigator position is filled based on the qualifications of each individual due to the experience gained in the areas of Chemical Biological Countermeasures, Electronics, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and Technical Surveillance Countermeasures. The full performance level for this position is at the GS-13 level. After an individual has gained the experience at the GS-13 level, there may be competitive opportunities for promotion to a Supervisory Technical Security Investigator (Branch Chief) position (GS-14) and then a competitive opportunity to Supervisory Technical Security Investigator (Assistant Division Chief) position (GS-15) based on availability of the position.
