Dyson is a veteran of the Secret Service with over 29 years of experience in the agency. He began his career with the Secret Service in February 1990 as an Officer assigned to the White House Branch.
“This is not only a great day for you, but it’s also great for the Uniformed Division and the Secret Service overall,” said Alles during Friday’s ceremony. “I am very confident in your ability to lead our Uniformed Division officers.”
Dyson was promoted to Sergeant in 1997 and subsequently was promoted up the ranks while serving in several leadership positions. Dyson has worked for the Office of the Chief, Foreign Missions Branch, Office of Government and Public Affairs, and most recently as Branch Commander for the Vice President’s Residence. He also spent the last six months as Acting Assistant Chief.
Uniformed Division Chief Thomas Sullivan praised Dyson as a leader who advocates for those throughout the force. “I’m extremely pleased with (his) promotion and I’m hopeful for all the things that we can accomplish for the Uniformed Division as a team.”
During the ceremony Dyson thanked his family for attending and credited his work ethic and call to service to his father who spent his life in civil service.
“I want to thank everyone for this opportunity, said Dyson. “I’m excited for the future of the Secret Service, especially the Uniformed Division. I’ve watched it grow for the last twenty-nine years and I’m ready to help lead it into the future.”
In existence for nearly 100 years, the Secret Service Uniformed Division is responsible for physical security of the White House Complex and Vice President’s residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington D.C.
