Tampa Man Charged With Trafficking in Credit Card Manufacturing Equipment

Jacksonville, Florida – Acting United States Attorney W. Stephen Muldrow announces the return of an indictment charging Joseph Xavier Murphy (27, Tampa) with trafficking in credit card manufacturing equipment. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison. Murphy was arrested by law enforcement this morning. He made his initial appearance in federal court and was temporarily detained. A detention hearing and arraignment are set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case was investigated by the Starke Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service - Jacksonville Field Office. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein.
