(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy has named William J. (Bill) Callahan as the agency’s new Deputy Director, effective immediately. Mr. Callahan is a 25-year veteran of the Secret Service and most recently served as the Assistant Director of the Office of Protective Operations.
“Throughout his career, Bill has developed the reputation of being a leader of great character who is well respected within the Secret Service and law enforcement community,” announced Director Clancy. “He is committed to ensuring the continuing successful accomplishment of the Secret Service mission and continual improvement of our agency.”
Mr. Callahan began his law enforcement career as a special agent assigned to the New York Field Office in 1991. His career experience includes a wide variety of positions in protective, investigative and headquarters level management roles. Assignments included positions as Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge (ATSAIC) of the Presidential Protective Division; ATSAIC for the Office of Homeland Security, detailed at the Department of Homeland Security; Assistant Inspector within the Inspection Division; Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Detroit Field Office, where he was ultimately promoted to the Special Agent in Charge; and Deputy Assistant Director in the Office of Investigations.
In April 2011, he was appointed to the Senior Executive Service and in February 2015, he was appointed as the Assistant Director for the Secret Service’s Office of Protective Operations.
