On May 10th, 2014, the United States Secret Service Lima Peru Resident Office supported the Peruvian National Police Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force (PNP-ACTF) arrest of three individuals in the act of printing U.S. counterfeit currency. During a pre-dawn raid, the PNP ACTF, with support from the U.S. Secret Service Lima RO, seized a commercial grade off-set printing press, twenty six printing plates bearing counterfeit images of U.S. currency, 50 negatives bearing images of U.S. currency, and $1.848 million in uncut sheets of counterfeit $100 U.S. Federal Reserve Notes. Peruvian National Police charged Martin Fernando Gomez Vilcanaupa, Joel Adolfo Portillo Quintana, and Godofredo Eduardo Vidal Valladares under Peruvian Criminal Code for manufacturing, distributing and possessing counterfeit currency. The suspects are alleged to be members of a criminal organization which specializes in the printing and distribution of U.S. counterfeit currency.
To date, the U.S. Secret Service Lima Resident Office and the U.S. Secret Service Miami Field Office have supported operations to suppress seven counterfeit plants associated with this particular counterfeit $100 U.S. Federal Reserve Note.
This case continues pending further investigation and judicial action.
