MILWAUKEE – The U.S. Secret Service, along with its law enforcement and public safety partners, conducted an outreach event with local businesses and residents in Milwaukee Jan. 31 as the agency works to develop the security plan for the 2024 Republican National Convention.

More than 40 volunteers from seven local and federal agencies went door-to-door to speak with businesses and residents who may be affected by the security plan for the upcoming Republican National Convention due to their proximity to the event venues.

The day kicked off with an interagency meeting to outline the event’s purpose and assign volunteers to teams of 2-3 people to conduct the outreach effort.

The purpose of this event was to collect contact information for each address to ensure consistent communication moving forward, along with information about regular deliveries, business operations, and other needs. The Secret Service will use this information to inform the development of the event’s security plan, in order to help mitigate impacts to the public while still ensuring a safe and secure convention.

The security plan for the 2024 Republican National Convention, including the official security perimeter, is still in development. Once that plan is finalized, information regarding traffic, parking, and other public impacts will be shared with the public.

In addition to the Secret Service, participating agencies included the Milwaukee Police Department, the Milwaukee Fire Department, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management, the City of Milwaukee Health Department, and the FBI.

This outreach event was the first of what will be many. Businesses and residents will have multiple opportunities in the months leading up to the 2024 Republican National Convention to speak with the Secret Service and its partners about the security plan and how it could affect them.
